Frederique Constant’s Latest Perpetual Calendar Is Pure Elegance
Summary
Frederique Constant has built a strong reputation for offering traditional Swiss watchmaking and technical innovation with exceptional value. The brand is known for bringing high-complication timepieces that combine refined aesthetics and mechanical sophistication to a broader audience of collectors.
The brand achieves this at its state-of-the-art manufacture in Geneva, where all Manufacture movements are developed, produced and assembled in-house. The latest caliber, Manufacture FC-776 for the Classic Perpetual Calendar Manufacture, makes it the 34th in-house movement developed by the brand.
Classic Perpetual Calendar Manufacture in salmon
Upon its release in 2016, the Classic Perpetual Calendar Manufacture by Frederique Constant was one of the most accessible perpetual calendars on the market. The watch has since been given a complete makeover with redesigned components, enhanced finishing and improved technical features.
Frederique Constant introduced this all-new, and more compact, perpetual calendar with a salmon dial at Watches and Wonders 2025. The new reference arrived with a host of updates, and refinements, starting with a new 40mm Classic case in stainless steel, down from the original 42mm. The salmon toned sunray dial has ever so slightly recessed sub register for the calendar functions, as well as a minimalist blue moonphase window at 6 o’clock. Along with the polished, diamond cut indices and slimmer dauphine hands, the dial has more dimension and visual appeal than its predecessor.
But the improvements are not limited to aesthetics alone. The new Classic Perpetual Calendar Manufacture also features the brand new, in-house developed FC-776 automatic movement. The new movement features elegant, if straightforward, finishing techniques such as perlage and Geneva stripes. Most significantly, it also features a 72-hour power reserve and beats at a reliable 4hz. This marks the 34th caliber that FC has developed over the course of the company’s history. Impressive when you consider that the company was founded in 1988 — meaning an average of one new movement almost every year that they have existed.
This watch is an admirable update to Frederique Constant’s offerings, making multiple meaningful improvements to their Perpetual Calendars. Considering the fact that Frederique Constant’s initial Slimline Perpetual Calendar, fitted with the FC-775 manufacture movement was released nearly ten years ago in 2016, and the fact that it was priced at US$9,000, it’s remarkable that this new one is now just short of US$10,000. When you factor in the movement improvements, case refinements, dial refresh, you’re getting a huge amount of watch for a nominal increase in price (US$2K less than what would be accounted for inflation alone.)
Frederique Constant’s latest trio of perpetual calendars
Following the successful launch of its salmon dial perpetual calendar model, Frederique Constant has expanded its collection by introducing three additional perpetual calendar watches. This new release includes two versions in stainless steel case and a third one in more luxurious 18K yellow gold case.
The silver and blue models feature a 40mm stainless steel case, a reduction from the previous 42mm size, making them more versatile for daily wear. The three-part case is made of stainless steel with a polished finish and is water resistant to 50 meters. The new case overall has a softer profile, with gentler curves and redesigned slimmer lugs.
The blue sunray dial has a contemporary touch, while the silver sunray dial feels more traditional and neutral. The silver-colored dauphine hour and minute hands are assembled and polished by hand. The applied, diamond-cut hour markers, which are also silver colored and hand polished, are slightly more slender than those of the 2016 model. There is a railway minute track around the perimeter of the dial. This minute track style was popularized by Art Deco design and is often seen on classic vintage dress watches.
The minimalist design, with well-placed subdials, makes the Classic Perpetual Calendar Manufacture arguably one of the most legible perpetual calendar displays. At 3 o’clock, a date counter with a silver-colored hand provides clear indication of the current date. The day of the week is displayed via a counter at 9 o’clock, also featuring a silver-colored hand. The month and leap year display at 12 o’clock features two silver-colored hands, one indicating the current month and the other tracking the four-year leap year cycle. The moonphase display at 6 o’clock has a detailed representation of the moon’s surface against a starry background.
The Classic Perpetual Calendar Manufacture is powered by the new in-house automatic FC-776 movement. The main update in this movement is an increased power reserve of three days, compared to the 38-hour power reserve of the previous movement. All calendar functions are operated via inset push buttons on the case, and time adjustments are made through the crown. Frederique Constant has decorated the movement with circular Côtes de Genève and perlage on the plates and bridges, as well as a gold, skeletonized rotor.

Frederique Constant Classics Perpetual Calendar Manufacture in 18K yellow gold paired with onyx-black dial
In addition to the two stainless steel perpetual calendar watches, Frederique Constant has introduced a 37-piece limited edition Classic Perpetual Calendar Manufacture in 18K yellow gold, featuring a black dial with matching gold-colored hands and markers. The case height is slightly slimmer than the steel models, and the watch is water resistant to 30 meters. The black dial and yellow gold limited edition is a shoo-in for formal occasions, such as black-tie events.
